THE LGBT JOBFAIR
The LGBT Jobfairs are where great employers meet great people from the LGBT community. It’s a safe and welcoming space for people from this community – estimated at around 700,000 in London alone – to spend time with employers in an easy relaxed atmosphere, and look at careers and opportunities. This form of direct support is diversity in action.
The Jobfairs got going in 2004 with the support of Brighton & Hove City Council, who run one of the largest LGBT patches in the country. It was an immediate hit with both employers and visitors who could meet, face to face, in a zone of trust. Good people got good jobs, good employers got good staff. It worked.
After three Jobfairs in Brighton, The Independent newspaper offered to be our media partner in London, the Mayor of London gave his support, and with this backing we put on the first two Jobfairs in London, in the spring of 2007 and 2008. It set the ball rolling, both employers and the people of the community saw the value of what was happening, and now The LGBT Jobfair is going from strength to strength.
